Who: Board of Directors

Nigel W. Morris
Nigel co-founded Capital One Financial Services in 1994. In just a few short years, through innovation and the groundbreaking Information-Based Strategy, Capital One quickly grew from an industry fledgling to a great success story. Under Nigel’s leadership and global vision, Capital One’s customer base grew to an extraordinary 45 million, managed loans increased to more than $70 billion and the company emerged as one of the top seven issuers of MasterCard and Visas in the world. He also led his company’s innovative efforts to address community needs through philanthropy and volunteerism, resulting in numerous awards, including the prestigious National Outstanding Corporate Community Involvement Award from the Points of Light Foundation, the Governor's Community Service and Volunteerism Award, and the Virginia Community College System and Business and Industry Partnership Award.

He is widely recognized for his entrepreneurial skills, his leadership and his ability to inspire those around him. He serves on the board of Governors of London Business School, The Economist Group, New Philanthropy Capital and acts as an advisor to a number of fast growing small companies. He is a frequent and popular guest lecturer in business schools and leadership forums including: his alma mater the London Business School, Harvard, Wharton, Darden, the international gathering of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization and The Mid-Atlantic Venture Capital Group. To complement his career in the financial services industry, Nigel has earned numerous awards and accolades, including “Entrepreneur of the Year” by London Business School; “Most Influential Personalities in Financial Services” and “Future Banker of the Year” by Future Banker; and one of "20 Who Made it Happen" by CIO Magazine – a list of leaders who “used technology creatively and with great foresight to transform their organizations and their industry.” Nigel has also been asked to leverage his leadership and vision in the public sector. Former Virginia Governor Mark Warner twice requested Nigel serve his state, first in taking on the role of vice chairman and guiding the formation of Virginia’s Commission on Efficiency and Effectiveness and, more recently, drawing upon his business savvy and strategic counsel to build the Governor’s Council on Virginia’s Future.

Nigel holds a Masters of Science degree from the London Business School.
