Who: Board of Directors

Brig Owens is a partner in Bennett & Owens, a sports management and real estate development firm. Prior to founding his own firm, Owens served as assistant executive director and associate counsel to the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) from 1979-1984, where in addition to his operational responsibilities, he developed the Association's financial planning, career counseling, employee assistance, and substance abuse programs. Owens also created the Professional Athletes Youth Foundation and Community Service Department of the NFLPA where he raised over $10 million to implement a youth development program in ten cities across the nation. This program was selected by the Department of Education as one of the top exemplary programs in the United States.

He is a former thirteen-year veteran of the National Football League and seven-year player representative and defensive captain for the Washington Redskins. Among his many accomplishments, Owens served as a member of the Central Caribbean Task Force and served on former Vice President Mondale's Task Force on Youth Employment. In addition, he has served on the boards of USA Telecommunications, National Bank of Commerce, and Big Brothers of America. He presently serves as vice president, trustee and board member of the Leukemia Society, Lombardi Foundation, NFL Players Agent Advisory Board, University of Cincinnati Presidents Executive Council and the National Board of Medical Examiners. Owens also developed a highly recognized drug prevention program in Washington, DC high schools, called Super Leaders. He was one of six recipients of the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award in 1990 for his commitment to the community, and is a published author. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati (where he was an All-American football player), attended Antioch School of Law, and received his JD from Potomac School of Law.
