Edward Skloot is the executive director of
the Surdna Foundation, a $650 million family foundation that
makes grants in five areas: the environment, community revitalization,
creating an effective citizenry, the arts, and the nonprofit
sector. He is a member of the board of directors for the Consumers
Union and The Natural Step, and is a member of the advisory
board of both The Bridgespan Group, a nonprofit consulting
firm affiliated with Bain and Co., and the Center for Urban
and Metropolitan Policy at the Brookings Institution. Skloot
has published two dozen monographs, articles, and chapters
for the academic and popular reader on entrepreneurship, strategy,
philanthropy, and capital availability. He was awarded a master's
in international affairs from the School of International
Affairs at Columbia University, a Fulbright Fellowship, and
a bachelor of arts from Union College.
