Kenneth Slaughter is a Partner at the law firm Venable, LLP, where he focuses his practice on representing private clients in public policy and government relations matters before state and local government agencies. He has also established a broad practice representing the management of public sector enterprises in labor negotiations and other employment issues. As a former corporate general counsel, Slaughter brings sensitivity and understanding to clients’ requirements for effective and economical outside representation. His private clients include Marriott, Clear Channel, Rappaport Companies, Amerigroup Corporation, Associated Builders and Contractors of Metropolitan Washington and CareFirst. In the public sector, Slaughter represents the US Department of Agriculture, the City Council of the City of Detroit, DC Housing Authority, DC Public Schools, University of the District of Columbia and the DC Water and Sewer Authority. Slaughter leads the Venable team representation for the City of Detroit’s effort to establish casino gambling.
Slaughter has served as a director of several community organizations that help children in the District of Columbia. In addition to his board role at Venture Philanthropy Partners, he has served as a board officer of the Seed Public Charter School, Heads Up and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington. Slaughter belongs to the National Bar Association and the International Association of Gaming Attorneys. His bar activities include the D.C. Affairs Committee, the Health Law Committee, and the Labor and Employment Committee. Slaughter received a bachelor's degree from Brown University and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center.
