Out on the Field with the Redskins Charitable Foundation

Ready for Work: Champions for Career- and College-Ready Graduates in Prince George’s County is a cross-sector initiative to help young people in the county successfully transition to adulthood career- and college-ready – enabling youth to enter the labor force with the academic, technical and foundational life skills that employers seek.

The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation invested in Ready for Work as part of its commitment to Prince George’s County and Greater Washington.

As part of the Redskins’ support of Ready for Work, they recently welcomed 50 ninth grade students from High Point High School for a private tour of FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins. These students were selected to participate in the field trip because they had most improved their academic performance over the first grading period of this school year.

The students were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium from an experienced guide and heard stories about the history of the Redskins and their importance in the community. The students were given the opportunity to sit in the press box and experience the vantage point of the media – learning about how members of the media track and report on games. They were also allowed an up-close look at the playing field.

The highlight of the trip was a tour of the players’ locker room where students tried on football helmets and jerseys. Another perk was enjoying lunch in the owners’ box – the ultimate view of the field. The students were thrilled to experience all aspects of the team, from the players’ viewpoint to the owners’.

VPP and the school leaders, teachers, and students of High Point High School are so grateful to the Redskins Charitable Foundation for providing such a wonderful experience for these young people and for their partnership to improve outcomes for youth in Prince George’s County and across the region.
