The Brookings Institution's Greater Washington Research Program, a component of its Center for Urban and Metropolitan Policy, was created to inform the public about Washington metropolitan area trends, examine the interwoven concerns of residents and jurisdictions, and generate innovative policy ideas for the long-term vitality of the Greater Washington area. The website contains extensive research on issues affecting the region.

The Center of Neighborhood Information Services (NIS) was created to provide Washington, DC citizens with a comprehensive place to find and share neighborhood information, spatial data, interactive mapping applications and neighborhood resources, to ultimately support comprehensive community building. The NIS website provides extensive data and analysis by neighborhood on population totals, population by race/ethnicity, family risk factors, isolation indicators, child well-being indicators, income and housing conditions, and reported crimes.

DC Action for Children (DC ACT) is an independent nonprofit, multi-issue advocacy organization dedicated to improving conditions for children and families in our Nation's Capital.
