Beatriz Otero, Executive Director
BB Otero is the founder and executive director of Calvary
Bilingual Multicultural Learning Center. She is a teacher
by training and has taught in the DC public schools as well
as at The American University and the University of the
District of Columbia. Before starting CBMLC in 1986, Otero
was the assistant director for emergency services at The
American Red Cross. Otero is a well-recognized nonprofit
leader in the District. She serves on numerous boards and
advisory committees, and chairs the Columbia Heights/Shaw
Family Support Collaborative.
Chuck Bean, Chairman of the Board
Chuck Bean has both domestic and international nonprofit
experience. He is the executive director of the newly created
Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington. Between November
2001 and September 2002, he managed the Community Capacity
Fund for Washington Grantmakers, which awarded $1.4 million
to help local organizations responding to community needs
after the September 11th attacks. Prior to that position,
Bean was the vice president for programs at Eureka Communities,
helping to launch this national leadership development organization.
Bean is also the co-founder of a nonprofit in Guatemala
designed to attract foreign investment to that country.
